WHAT IS THE SYNPHORIUM? The Synphorium is the name of Emily & Preston's home. Synthesis Tuesdays, The Dedicated Meditation, and some other events take take place there. As Emily put it "We used to throw events at our home, now it's more like we live at our venue! We've arranged our lives around our events, and arranged our home around them too. So our home is now called The Synphorium, also home to our 5 cats. WHY THE WORD SYNPHORIUM? The word "Synphorium" from SYNesthesia "a blending of the senses" plus euPHORia "a heightened state of well-being" plus -orIUM "a place" Synphorium: a place to safely become One, a place to unite in bliss. The Synphorium is not like most homes. On the 2nd floor of a non-descript building at a fairly busy intersection in one of the most famous cities in the world. Thousands pass by it every day seemingly oblivious to the sacred energy-fields contained with-in. Nor could these strangers know the strange beauty and wonder that is hidden away from the mundane world, yet set right in its midst. The Synphorium is decorated with draped saris, candleabras, bamboo-ropelights, a water-dripping gargoyle, a floating miniature garden of childlike delights, chocolate fountain, mosaic walls, Tree of Life, "head-space", rabbit-hole, cloud-room, starry-night ceiling, shrines, the cat's spiral staircase and catwalk(s), piano parts, "bleachers", a "cave", a black-light cannon and many other specialty lights... all to entice and entrance, to inspire loving expression, and to facilitate manifesting bliss Here and Now, in Joyous community, whether via meditation or celebration. DIRECTIONS The Synphorium is located @ 5602 N. Ridge Ave. (Ridge begins at the 5-way intersection of Bryn Mawr / Broadway / Ridge), above Taqueria El Norte, across from a 24hr Walgreens, 4 block in from the lake. LAKE SHORE DRIVE = Get off @ the Bryn Mawr exit (5600 N), go 4 intersections W, park, walk to the 1st door on Ridge (5602). ASHLAND = Take to Bryn Mawr, turn E, go 4 intersections, park, walk to the 1st door on Ridge (5602). WEST = Take Peterson E to Ridge (angles SE @ Ashland / Ridge / Peterson) to 5602, park. NORTH = Take Green Bay Road to Ridge, all the way South to 5602, park. FROM I-90 = Take exit 81A Harlem north, (left on Harlem), Drive for 1.1 miles, Turn right onto Devon Ave (east) for 2 miles, make slight right onto US Route 14 aka Caldwell Ave. Drive for 5.5 miles (Caldwell will become Peterson, then Ridge Ave) to 5602 Ridge, park. FROM I-94 (from north suburbs) = Take exit 41B Peterson (east), aka US RT 14, for 4.7 miles (Peterson will become Ridge, this is still US RT 14) to 5602 Ridge, park. A NOTE OF INTEREST If you peruse a map of Chicago you'll notice something. Within a small geographical area, just in from the lake at the north end of Lake Shore Drive where it meets Hollywood, you'll find numerous centers of Divine Light! The Synphorium, where many gatherings are held, is but one of many. Within 1/2 block of us is Pure Peace : Medecine of the Prophets, plus The Sivanada Yoga Center, Alchemy Arts Bookstore, and a Buddhist Temple. A few blodks further are Unity Chicago where Eight:18 is held, and Yoga Now Edgewater, plus Soothe Your Senses. In other words: At the top of LSD you'll find a locus point of spiritual energy, perhaps Chicago's heart chakra, as it were. |
