8:18 UPDATE THAT WAS SENT OUT 1/28/08 To our dear Dancers... Happy New Year! It's been a spectacular and unpredictable year so far. Preston and I celebrated our collective LIFT OFF at Ignition 2008 on New Year's Eve with many of you (YAY!). We honored 2007, a year of of powerful challenges / lessons, and powerful blessings / love. We're happy to share some news about 8:18, New as of Sunday 1/27/08 First the miracles... Unity's new "Business and Development Manager" is now our sole contact re: 8:18 business at Unity. She is able to make some decisions on Unity's behalf, and acts as our liaison to the Board. We no longer have to fear being cancelled by the Board. She took an objective look at 8:18, and blessedly, she immediately realized 8:18's value as a loving community event, and has guaranteed us First Fridays through December 2008. AND we have 2 more rooms to use during 8:18 : we have the CHILLOUT room back AND a new room for healers! YAY!!! (See www.818atUnity. com for frequent updates to subevents) However, the rental fee we pay to Unity is still high, and this challenges Preston and I because 8:18's attendance has declined since we lost many cool sub events (i.e. chillout, board room, sufi zhikr, etc) when we lost 1/2 the rooms. Fewer people attended, and fewer promoted, and fewer vendors participated creating a further decrease in the "circus" energy, which all adds up to less revenue for 8:18, and a a steady decrease in our marginal profit. Finally, in December 2007, 818 was in the red : a clear deficit. We'd always at least broken even before. Unity now guarantees us 8:18 through 2008, if we want it. Preston and I have only committed to 8:18 in February, March and April so far, depending on *if* the energy/income picks up. We simply do not have the finances to support 8:18 ourselves. === With the 2 new rooms, we are hoping for more of that awesome circus energy to revitalize 8:18. Your letters played a HUGE part in saving 8:18 from cancellation last April, and if 8:18 is to continue beyond this April... we need your promtional help. How? Hand promo-cards to your friends and clients, tell people, BRING your friends! Tell your local papers, high-schoolers, share your enthusiasm for this community. Preston and I are doing what we can, but it is not enough. I will be sending out the next 8:18 promo email on Tuesday 1/29. Please send this email to your friends and elists. === On the other hand... 8:18 has been monthly for 4 1/2 years. This Friday will be our 54th 8:18 (seriously!! ) When I think of that... I bow my head in humble awe and gratitude to all of you for being part of the love. That's quite an amazing feat. We should collectively be super proud of ourselves for this community. WAY TO GO!!!!! If 2008 is to see the completion of 8:18, we will (of course) be sad to lose this all-ages outlet, but perhaps 8:18 has run it's course and this is our opportunity to say Thank you, and good bye. We truly honor this amazing event for the thousands of friendships and relationships that have blossomed out of 8:18 over the past 4 1/2 years. We know of many friends who met on this dance floor. YEAH!!! Preston and I are in a place of acceptance wherever 8:18 is leading. And that won't change how much we appreciate all of you :) We feel 2008 is ripe with opportunity, and we are praying for the highest and greatest good to manifest through our Work, and our community. We are grateful for every opportunity to produce these events for you... in the past, the present, and the future venues that are waiting for our collective energy to come and drum/dance/heal/ sing/talk/ share/meet/ love with you. Whatever the future holds, we are excited, we are grateful, and most of all, we are complete. Creating Heaven on Earth.
